The Project

FOOTPRINTS aims to contribute to our understanding of how the Earth system will respond once we reduce (but not entirely eliminate) our human impact.

How? To do so, we need to start from 1) investigating forcing footprints of carbon dioxide removal measures, 2) improving our understanding of the Earth system response, to halted CO2 emissions, and 3) all-forcing zero-CO2 emission scenarios, to then finally 4) understand how we will achieve the Paris Agreements goal of temperature stabilisation.

What happens to the Earth system once we reach our emissions goals?

Will that stabilise our climate? Even if we achieve it with large scale carbon dioxide removal measures?!
